Nice video from last weeks epic David Nelson Band tour. Check out this Bird Song!

I don't understand why the Nelson Band doesn't get more credit. There are many so-called "Jam Bands" out there, but DNB is the closest band I have heard that can even compare to the GD in terms of power, story-telling,musical variety, talent and really hanging on to that "Good Ol' Grateful Dead" vibe when they were at their best. They remind me of the Dead circa 1970-72 in song choices and jamming. David Nelson and Jerry go back forever and it shows. Barry Sless even sounds like Jerry. Everytime I see them I position myself close to Barry Sless just to watch how he plays.

In the article I linked in my last post even David Gans recently called them his "favorite band in the Universe". It's a great article and I'll link it again here....

Very nice. Love to have seen this. Nice mellow vibe about the place. Hell its Hawaii, why would it not be? Barry's playing has always done me right no matter who he is with. Thanks for posting. Must be heaven man! Peace

I finally got to listen to the whole show, and I have to thank you for pointing it out ! Now I have downloaded all those shows the y did with Billy K. !
The jamming is just so amazing, and definitely has the "feel" without being a copy band . Now I need to compare them with Molo . Any suggestions ?

You are correct , The Dave Nelson Band deserves more credit , and listening , than they get . I downloaded the shows you linked, haven't listened to them yet , but looking forward .
Have you checked out the recent (last few years) New Riders shows ? Truthfully, with Marmaduke gone, it is sort of an alternate DNB, which is cool . Definitely more jam oriented than the old NRPS . And with no Barry Sless ( I agree on your take on him, he is wonderful ), Dave gets to solo , along with the excellent Buddy Cage , of course .
Thanks for the posts .

That is an amazing performance of Bird Song. Sless and Sears always completely captivate me with their unique playing. Love those guys, and of course David Nelson too. Totally agree with your assessment of the DNB.
